The translation of the anthology ‘Poets from Sardinia’ is part of a larger and innovative project conceived by the translators to present ‘Italian authors who do not speak/write/dream only in Italian but in regional languages such as Sardinian, Friulian etc, to reach the world in English’. In the first in this unique series Michele Pinna presents parallel texts in Sardinian and English from ten poets: Alcioni, Canu, Cocco, Cherchi, Delogu, Mura Ena, Piras, Porcheddu, Rubattu and Serra. They are all bilingual but creatively write in Sardinian. The language question runs through these poems, but so too do a love for the country, for its traditions and a particular perspective on looking outward to the Italian peninsula and to the world.

MICHELE PINNA is Professor of Sardinian Literature at the University of Sassari and an essayist writing extensively on the history, language, literature, folklore in Sardinia.

GIUSEPPE SERPILLO, translator from Sardinian to Italian, is Professor of English Literature at the University of Sassari, with a special interest in Irish and Welsh literature and the problems of language in bilingual contexts.

ANDREA BIANCHI & SILVANA SIVIERO, the founding editors of the series, work as translators from English and Welsh to Italian or from Italian to English. Silvana is a bilingual translator and teacher born in Wales. Together they have translated some of the most important voices of Welsh. They also organize festivals and launches.

ROBERT MINHINNICK is a Welsh poet, essayist, translator and former editor of Poetry Wales. , His books have won many awards and he is the co-founder of Sustainable Wales.
